I have no shade to throw at the Lucky Tree

Here at G2G, we love games that are quite weird, wonderful and quirky. Lucky Tree may be a little more subtle than recent games I’ve reviewed such as Pig Wizard and Lost Vegas. But that doesn’t mean it’s any less wonderful.

With a relaxing Chinese theme, Lucky Tree is sure to become a favourite for those of you who are looking for something a little more laid back. Playing this game, I often fell into somewhat of a meditative trance, which was periodically broken by the excitement of the bonus rounds.

Because understandably it’s not so easy to be fully relaxed when your bank balance is going through the roof.

Bally take time to relax in this video slot

Recently I reviewed another Bally slot, Wonder Woman. It was full of all the excitement I’ve come to expect from superhero games and was an all-action game. But I really embraced the quiet calm of Lucky Tree.

As a subsidiary of the Chicago Based WMS, Bally got their start in land-based slot machines. So they know what they’re talking about when it comes to slots. And Lucky Tree is no exception. It’s been a popular brick and mortar casino game for many years. Just recently, Bally decided to embrace its popularity and bring it online.

And I couldn’t be happier about it.

You can play Lucky Tree on your desktop, of course, but also on your mobile from wherever on whenever you like. Such as while you’re sitting under your favourite…lucky tree. As an extra bonus, you can also play this game in portrait mode on your mobile.

Give it a go. You’ll like it.

Asian Inspiration at the heart of Lucky Tree

Luck. Some have it, some don’t. It’s such a vague concept, but one we all understand. Nowhere is the concept of luck more important than in China. With lucky colours, numbers, symbols and very bizarrely…cabbage, they have luck covered!

Lucky Tree was inspired by the story of the money tree. Legend has it that a sculptor tried to trick the villagers of the town he lived in to cut down his tree by placing fake money in the tree. But so many believed in the magic of the tree, the tree became anointed as sacred and the sculptor was banned from cutting down his tree.

Which let’s face it, kind of served him right!

The Lucky Symbols

You’ll find plenty of lucky symbols in the game. One of our favourites is Maneki-Neko, known previously to us merely as Fortune Cat. He’s that little kitty cat you’ll often see waving to you in the shop fronts of Chinese healers, Asian supermarkets and on the mantel of friends with questionable taste. I have of course come across it before when I was playing Astro Cat.

Other symbols include the lucky bamboo (the Feng Shui’s rookie’s favourite), peonies (China’s unofficial national flower) and strangely a tortoise protecting a huge pile of coins.

As with other similar games, there are 20 pay-lines in this 5 reel slot. You can set your stake by clicking bottom right of the screen. The AutoPlay feature of this game is completely adaptable allowing you to not only pick the number of spins but also to stop after a certain amount is won or lost.

The audio features of Lucky Tree are pretty unique. Not surprising given I rarely play casino slots that look like they were created in a Japanese spa or Yoga studio.

The base game will immerse you in relaxing meditative music and it’s easy to almost start to believe you are on a spa day. But of course, as soon as you get close to triggering a bonus feature, the excitement and tempo of the music pick up, letting you know that something special is about to happen.

The bonus features of this game are quite special, so let’s discuss them.

Hard to stay calm during the free games feature

In a game all about luck, a little luck goes a long way. And if you have just a little of it, you’ll activate the following bonus features.

Wild Coin Mystery Feature

In the background of Lucky Tree, you’ll find…. You guessed it, a lucky tree! So what makes this tree so lucky? The simple answer is the mystery coin feature. This feature can be triggered during any spin. Coins will fall from the tree onto the reels. The coins are wilds and will substitute for all symbols except for fortune cat, yin yang or dragon.

Any spin can trigger between 2 and 7 coins to fall, but the coins really come into play during the free game bonus, which I’ll discuss below.

Free Game Bonus

The ultimate symbol of good and bad will trigger a special set of free spins. Get three yin yangs on the three centre reels and you’ll activate 10 free spins. During the Free Spins, every spin will shake up the lucky tree causing 3 to 7 coins to fall onto your board. Get another three yin yangs during your free spins and ten more free spins will be added to your total.

There is, unfortunately, a limit of 100 free spins that can be received during a round, but that’s plenty to give you a chance to get lucky.

Pick Bonus

I really loved this one. Get three fortune cats on reels 1, 3 and 5 to launch this mini-game. Once the game launches you’ll be given the option to choose one of three spheres. After you’ve made your choice the spheres will open showing the number of picks a player has been awarded. Players can receive 6-12, 14 or 15 picks. Guessing they wanted to avoid the unlucky 13, but personally, I’d be much happier to receive 13 picks rather than 6.

Then again, I own a black cat and regularly walk under ladders just for kicks. So maybe not the person to ask.

The scrolls to the side will now open, revealing multipliers applicable to the animals sitting on top of the scrolls. Your job here is to pick as many blocks as you were rewarded at the beginning of the round.

The more animals you match, the higher the multiplier you’ll receive. The multiplier will be applied to the stake you had when you triggered the bonus. Get eight fortune cats and you’ll be rewarded with a massive 5000x multiplier! From fortune cat to Fat Cat, eh?

Still waters run deep in Lucky Tree slot

On the surface, Lucky Tree seems like quite a simple game. But the three bonus features keep you interested throughout and with this slot you rarely go through those long spells where nothing really happens.

The coins drop often, so small wins come in quite often, allowing you to keep your bankroll going for ages.

You’ll need a little patience to activate the free spins or pick bonus, but once you do, you’ll be kindly rewarded.

The legend of Maneki-Neko always includes an element where Fortune Cat waves at someone and they are thereafter imbued with good luck. The minute all three cats enter the game, you’re bound to start believing in the legend!

Playing Lucky Tree for fun is absolutely fine but you’ll get a little frustrated if you secure some big wins when playing without real money. Avoid that happening by opening an account today at the best casinos in India!
