Dead men walking in Vegas
They say that what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. But if what’s just happened is the apocalypse and you’re either a survivor or a zombie then…maybe you don’t want to stay in Vegas yourself for too long.
Actually, of course, you do! The Lost Vegas video slot gives you the chance to play two completely different games depending on whether you want to play in Survivor or Zombie mode. All the while taking in what makes Las Vegas the capital of sin.
Every vice going appears somewhere or other in this slot and this is clearly a week for being decadent because I’ve just finished reviewing the 7 Sins casino slot.
But let’s talk about this one.

Another ‘weirdo’ video slot courtesy of Microgaming
Microgaming is, of course, one of the big names from the world of slots providers. I suppose if they made movies rather than slots, they’d be Paramount Pictures or something.
They’re pretty diverse when it comes to the themes of their slots these days. A couple of years ago they had Rabbit in the Hat and earlier this year released Tarzan so you never know what they’re about to come up with next.
But if Microgaming mixes it up with very different subject matters, you can at least count on them when it comes to the quality of their games. They rarely make a bad one and that certainly includes what they’ve done with this Lost Vegas casino slot.
If it’s a long flight to Vegas, why not take Vegas around with you? Play Lost Vegas on your mobile or tablet if you prefer or just use the more ‘traditional’ method and watch the carnage unfold via your desktop.
Is she a working girl… or not?
I know I’m in Las Vegas and that the Apocalypse has resulted in a split between the local residents. It’s no longer male or female, now it’s Zombie or Survivor.
I actually thought this was the first-ever slot where you could play it in two totally different modes: Zombie or Survivor. That was until the geekiest of all us at G2G geeks reared his head from under his huge anorak and said:
‘’Err, sorry chaps. I take no pleasure in saying this but it’s already been done in Superman Man of Steel where you can play on either the Earth or Krypton mode.’’
Yeah, I bet he took no pleasure at all in saying that.
Either way, the option to play in two modes helps keep things fresh here.
If you’re playing Survivor mode, characters/symbols include: a keen golfer with a five iron in his hand, a high-roller who looks a little angry that the Apocalypse interrupted his good streak at the Blackjack table, a waitress who appears to be holding a Molotov cocktail and a guy who looks like he might have been an airplane pilot. Lastly, there’s a girl who looks like she might be a…working girl.
I called Microgaming and asked.
‘’We cannot confirm nor deny whether the baseball bat-wielding female character is or is not a so-called working girl. But it’s Vegas so not the worst theory we’ve ever heard.’’
You may have noticed that all the characters have some form of weapon on them.
The Zombie mode
If you’re playing in Zombie mode there’s an Elvis impersonator, a deranged nurse holding a syringe, a party girl dressed up to the nines who presumably was at a party when turned Zombie and a couple who appear to still be in love with each other.
Despite the other being a Zombie.
There’s also a guy who it would appear was on a safari when he himself was turned into a Zombie. As you do.
As you can see, most of the symbols are completely different depending on what mode you’re playing in. Exceptions are the Lost Vegas symbols (the Wild), the Scatter symbol and the low-value playing card symbols. Normally I wouldn’t even bother mentioning these but they’re relevant here as you will see when discussing the free spins.
Loving the scary Blackout bonus feature
Shall we talk features? Let’s.
Zombie fist of cash
Sad that you’ve just had a losing spin? Don’t be because you might just be about to get the ‘Zombie fist of cash’ bonus. A fist full of cash just appears and it’s yours to keep.
It’s scary stuff but hey, it’s free money. And that’s not something you often get in Vegas. As an added bonus, if there’s just one Scatter on the reels when this happens, you instantly activate the free spins.
This feature only appears when playing on Zombie mode.
Occasionally, the whole screen will turn black. Not because someone forgot to pay the electricity bill but rather because this is a slot about Zombies and sometimes that stuff just happens.
Thankfully, there are some night goggles available which allow you to randomly see some of the high-value symbols and gives you cash prizes for them.
The other great thing about this feature – other than that you feel like you’re in that spine-chilling night vision scene from Silence of the Lambs – is that if there’s just one Scatter on the reels when this happens, you instantly activate the free spins.
Unlike the one above, you only get this feature when playing on the Survivor mode.
Survivor mode Free Spins
Three or more Scatters and the free spins are activated. Remember us mentioning the lower card symbols in the previous section? Yes? Good.
So what happens is that all the playing card symbols disappear (up to a maximum of 25) when they’re on the reels using the cascading reels technique. Each disappearing symbol adds to the survivor’s stash so you get to keep that cash, in addition to any cash secured from regular wins.
The nice thing about the cascading reels is that you can get further wins each time a card appears (and disappears) because each playing card symbol is replaced by another one.
Zombie mode free spins
The free spins work in a completely different way if you’re playing in Zombie mode, although they’re also activated by getting three Scatters.
The zombies get what’s called an infection feature instead. The zombies now become stacked wilds and infect each reel they touch for the remainder of the spins games. You know, like a contagious disease. When all five reels become infected, the free spins stop.
This is by far the more volatile of the two game modes, meaning that you could get not much at all or you could really cash in. That’s because a full 5 reel set of expanded wilds is theoretically very possible here and can reward up to 2155x your stake!
Amongst the very best I’ve seen
A great slot all around. From the original theme to the fact that you can play it in two different modes, each one with its own special feature and type of free spins. Which means that essentially it’s like playing two different slots.
As an added bonus, there’s also some great footage of the zombies and survivors that looks like something out of the wonderful movie Sin City.
Which of the two modes is best to play will depend on your own personal preference, of course. Some will prefer to play just the one mode, some will prefer the other and some will opt to change from one to another to keep things fresh.
My preference? The Zombie mode is probably more fun because of the characters, especially the Elvis impersonator who looks like he enjoyed the same sort of diet that Elvis himself had towards his latter days.
But the features seem to be better on Survivor mode with the Blackout Bonus seemingly more generous than the Zombie fist of cash. Similarly, you’re always guaranteed a decent prize with the Survivor mode free spins, which as I’ve said already, doesn’t always happen with the Zombie free spins.
It’s because of slots like this one that Microgaming are very high up on the hierarchy of slots providers. And why Microgaming’ slots are frequently featured in the most popular Indian online casinos!
